German Chancellor Angela Merkel,
VDE-Chairman Dr.-Ing. Hans Heinz Zimmer
The VDE is a stimulus and partner for innovative technology policies – on the national and international levels. The primary goals of the VDE are to achieve the best possible framework conditions for a favorable climate of innovation in the fields of electrical engineering, electronics and IT – and to ensure excellent engineering education as a guarantee for the future. In view of 7th European Union research program, the VDE calls for concentrating available funds on the most promising innovative technology fields, such as IT, micro- and nanotechnologies, medical and energy technologies – for they are indisputably the keys to successful German and European economies in the future.

To this end, our association activities include intensive dialog and cooperation with the political community on the federal and state level as well as on the European level in Brussels. By presenting our expert studies and position papers to bodies such as the European Parliament, the German Chancellor’s Office, and Germany’s Parliament, we support the political decision-making process in many important fields. As in the past, a positive public echo in society, politics and the media is a vital sign of successful VDE work on behalf of Germany. With the help of intensive press work, media campaigns, press conferences, special initiatives, events and partnerships, the VDE kept experts and the public well informed about topics such as technology trends, educational policy and product quality. The VDE product analysis 2007, for example, reached millions of users through the media.
