Requirement
Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons PAH are a substance family of aromatic hydrocarbons with poly condensed aromatic rings. They are mainly found in tar, crude oil and coal and are therefore present as softeners and colorants for polymers. PAH are carcinogenic substances that are mainly absorbed by the skin. There is a list of 16 PAH selected by the EPA (US Environmental Protection Agency) that are routinely investigated as the most important PAH.
Phthalates (Esters of the Phthalic acid) are used as softeners mainly in PVC. Phthalates are regulated in toys and have to be reported in the supply chain under the REACH directive. Manufacturers and retailers have set company specific restrictions on Phthalates.
Phthalates is used as a polymer constituent for thermo set plastics. In its un-reacted form Bisphenol A acts as an endocrine disruptor.
Nonylphenol is a persistent eco toxic and hormone like substance.
