This bulletin was prepared by a project team headed by the VDE Commission for Lightning Protection and Lightning Research (ABB – CLP/R) in order to provide practical answers to the questions encountered with regard to antenna earthing/lightning protection, buildings with / without lightning protection systems, lightning protection required/not required by regulatory agencies, old systems/extensions/redesigns/new structures.

In Future decentralized generation systems can be expected to make a greater contribution. This refers to the possibilities of combined heat and power supply (CHP) as well as using renewable energy sources in the form of wind energy, photovoltaic systems (PV) and biomass. This study tries to describe and evaluate these developments and their impact on the supply structures.
