Cyber security in the smart home: The VDE Institute certifies the first encrypted smart home bus system by eQ-3

Yesterday at the IFA 2018 in Berlin, the European market leader in whole-home solutions for smart home, eQ-3, received the VDE certificate "Smart Home – Information Security Tested" for its first wired and simultaneously encrypted "Homematic IP Wired" smart home bus system, which can be installed in new buildings without additional expenses. Even the accompanying new Homematic IP wired access point received the VDE certificate for information security. Furthermore, the VDE experts tested electrical safety and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).

The Homematic IP portfolio contains products for regulating the indoor climate, security, lighting, shadowing and other additional equipment. This solution uses a free app for configuration, monitoring and control. To that end, the Homematic IP access point enables communication between the local wireless or wired devices and the Homematic IP cloud service. No personal data is saved on the Homematic IP access point. "It is important for citizens to trust the technology, particularly when it comes to the smart home. The fear of criminals gaining access to your own four walls at the touch of a button is too great. The VDE certificate for verifying information security creates trust. At the same time, we hereby strengthen the market for smart home technologies", explained Wolfgang Niedziella, General Manager of the VDE Testing and Certification Institute on the occasion of the certificate handover at the IFA.
