At SPS IPC Drives, the trade fair for electrical automation technology, around 1,700 exhibitors presented solutions for industrial automation. A special focus of the exhibitors this year was Industry 4.0 and the digital transformation. At our stand visitors to the fair were given interesting information on the certification of cables and cords for use in automation. Because the expertise of the testing and standardization expert Bör naturally flows into the tests in the laboratory. The VDE specialists are currently working on a test specification for the certification of cables and cords in automated applications, i.e. for use in industrial robots and other production facilities. The purpose of the provision is to define test methods that can be used to prove the suitability of different cables and cords for corresponding continuous application conditions. These load tests are designed for all types of cables to depict the practical use of permanently moving cables, such as garland suspension, cable drag chains, robots and similar.
