The VDE was represented by three booths at the trade fair in Frankfurt: In addition to the main booth in Hall 4.1 where VDE e.V., the VDE Institute and VDE|DKE presented themselves, colleagues from the VDE Publishing House in hall 9.0 provided information about the latest VDE publications, standards and seminars. VDE expert Daniel Schädel was available at the ZVEH booth in hall 8.0 for questions on the topic of smart metering.
The VDE Institute at Light+Building 2018: Our highlights
Activities at the VDE’s main booth in hall 4.1
In our exhibition booth’s “smart living room”, our VDE experts provided information on the issues of human-centric lighting, flickering, smart living and cyber security. In addition to a general overview of the technical abilities and novelties in smart building and smart lighting, interested visitors were also informed about possible hazards. This is because information security and data protection play a major role in a networked home.
A special highlight at our main booth was our ball-shooting booth, where soccer fans visiting the trade fair could measure their shooting power. Numerous participants took up the challenge until the end of the trade fair and attempted to shoot their way into our top ten. The challenge simulates tests that we perform in our ball-shooting booth and shows why lighting in sports facilities, such as gyms, needs to withstand special loads.
Our quick-sketch artist was there once again. In just a few minutes, cartoonist WIlli Schmidt portrayed our booth’s visitors and provided a unique trade fair souvenir.
Presentation by Dr. Siegfried Pongratz and Dr. Alexander Nollau
On March 22, 2018, VDE expert Dr. Siegfried Pongratz (VDE Institute), together with Dr. Alexander Nollau from the DKE (German Commission for Electrical Technologies), held a presentation on the issue of “load management and information security in smart home + building”. It showed, among other things, how efficiently energy can be used when the appropriate technology is considered as early as during the planning stage. Of course, Dr. Pongratz’ flagship topic, information security, had to be included.
