VDE Institute Managing Director, Wolfgang Niedziella, took care of issuing the certificate at E-World: “Today we certify the innogy SmartHome home control system with having excellent information security. Seldom does one find a vendor that makes huge efforts for information security”. Martin Herrmann, Sales Director for innogy SE, accepted the certificate. He emphasizes: “We advocate responsibility for the data protection of our users. As such, data economy, thorough data encryption and data protection are given high priority at innogy. We thank the independent experts at the VDE Institute for their thorough work. We take this very good result as an incentive to continue doing everything that is technically possible for system security.” The company will continue to verify this.
The VDE special mark for information security and data protection in the smart home backend was first issued to innogy SmartHome in 2014. Certification in 2016 also included the software interface (client API). The backend and client API were tested to confirm that sensitive data is securely encrypted and protected from external attacks. This was certified by the VDE in a standardized testing procedure, where both hacker attacks as part of external penetration tests and internal penetration tests at the heart of the computer center were performed.
