VDE – Born to test

Hall 26 | Booth 204

The VDE will focus on the topics of smart household appliances and security in the connected home at the IFA in Berlin this year. Our experts are available as your point of contacts this entire week. You can experience our most important topics up close and personal in our hands-on activities, and even our cartoonist Marcel Bender is here again. Stop by and feel electrified by the electrical technology.

VDE presentations at IFA NEXT Engine

In the middle of hall 26a, trade fair visitors can inform themselves about future technologies at the IFA NEXT Innovation Engine stage. Trends and possibilities for making work and life more efficient, convenient and effective are discussed here with various speakers from many different companies. Of course, the experts from the VDE Institute could not miss out.

Saturday 9/2 at 1:40 p.m.: "The pitfalls of using WPS – field report from a pen test on a smart home gateway", Pavel Post.

Tuesday 9/4 at 12:40 p.m.: "Shopping 4.0 – the rocky road to a high-quality retail product", Michael Wenzel.

Tuesday 9/4 at 1 p.m: "With functional Safety in the future, Christian Groß.

Smart Living

Digitalization has long since arrived in our day-to-day lives. An increasing number of devices are being controlled via a smartphone or tablet app. People who purchase new devices can hardly come across one that does not have connectivity features. These devices can make our lives easier and more convenient. At the same time, they need to be secure and, at best, even more energy-efficient.

At our booth, we use several show props to demonstrate how easy it can be to find weak points in a connected home and exploit them if the devices are not optimally protected.

The experts at the VDE Institute use various services to assist manufacturers and vendors of connected systems in order to make them secure for consumers.

Stop by and learn how you can secure your devices, apps and systems.

Excitement, games and fun

There is also an opportunity to be active this year as well. You must keep your balance against other players and beat the high score on our balance board. While doing so, you must excel in this test of skill and balance your way to first place.

Marcel Bender, quick-sketch artist and cartoonist, is ready to make you a hand-made souvenir. Whether it’s during your favorite activity, on a pony or while doing other misdeeds, you will receive a funny and outstanding caricature of yourself in the end.

DKE presents the standardization roadmap

At the IFA 2018, DKE will present the current standardization roadmaps on energy efficiency and direct current
VDE

Electrical Energy Efficiency

Energy efficiency is an important tool for achieving established climate goals. Electrotechnical standardization has been well-positioned in this respect for many years. Increased energy efficiency has led to noticeable energy savings.
With its roadmap, the DKE demonstrates that there is still considerable potential for saving energy. Stop by and let us show you the roadmap.

Direct current in the low-voltage range

Alternating current was previously the method of choice for reliable energy supply, from production to transmission and distribution all the way to consumption. New applications in energy supply and use require innovative solutions for the use of direct-current systems. At the IFA, DKE will present their roadmap for using direct-current systems. The state of the art with respect to security, protection concepts as well as network and system topologies will be presented in a general overview. At the same time, the standards landscape will be explained, gaps will be demonstrated, and the need for action in standardization and research will be described.
