The Hannover Messe is the world's most important industrial fair and attracted numerous visitors this year with focus topics such as intelligent robots, learning machines and networked energy systems. Of the 225,000 visitors, more than 75,000 came from abroad, mainly from China, India and the Netherlands.

Industry 4.0 and Cyber Security were, in addition to the Integrated Industry, the main focus at the VDE booth in Hall 13. The topics of the industry 4.0 and digitization are particularly important for Germany as an industrial location. Through the increasing ability of many products and services to communicate and network, the interoperability as well as the information security and functional security of the systems become more and more important. The fear of data theft and manipulation by hackers are growing. One of the tasks of the VDE Institute is to strengthen security in these areas as well as to implement uniform test standards.

With the support of our partners Mitsubishi Electric, Elabo, Weisstechnik and M + H Elektro-Steuerungstechnik visitors have the chance to get an explanation and clarification of the topics Industry 4.0 and Cyber Security in a practical way. Another highlight was the personal caricature of our illustrator Marcel Bender, who was also present at other fairs. At our hacking station, VDE expert Alexander Matheus demonstrated how easy it is for hackers to get their personal data and how to protect themselves or systems from such attacks.

At our Tec2You pavilion, students had the opportunity to solder their own small electronic gimmicks, like our VDE Smart Watch. Students of the electrical engineering and information technology, all members of the VDE YoungNet, stood by with advice and deed, explaining the technology behind it. Furthermore, the winners of Invent a Chip presented their projects from the last competition year, which showed the functionalities of chip development. In the world-wide unique competition of VDE and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), students design their own microchip.
