VDE Institute and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen cooperation in the fields of next-generation Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), distribution grid operation, international standardization, and testing & certification.

The signing ceremony was held between Ansgar Hinz, CEO of the VDE Group and Chi-kyo Jung, Vice President of KEPCO, with senior representatives from both organizations in attendance.

Under the MoU, the two organizations will leverage their respective expertise in electric power technologies, utility operation, standardization, testing, inspection, and certification to collaborate in four key areas: AMI 2.0 cybersecurity and system standardization; assessment of international standards and establishment of global testing & certification frameworks; standardization of AMI data integration and distribution grid interface technologies; and AMI-enabled distribution grid monitoring and operation technologies.

Through this strategic cooperation, VDE and KEPCO will enhance the reliability, interoperability, and global competitiveness of grid technologies.

As part of the agreement, VDE and KEPCO will hold regular technical workshops and expert seminars, promote technical exchanges, and conduct mutual benchmarking of pilot project sites. These initiatives are expected to establish a structured and sustainable cooperation framework between the two organizations.

Chi-kyo Jung, Vice President of KEPCO, stated, “This MoU marks a practical starting point for working together to establish international standards for next-generation AMI systems. By combining KEPCO’s world-class utility operation know-how with VDE’s standardization and certification infrastructure, we expect to achieve concrete outcomes in advancing AMI and distribution grid operation technologies.”

The partnership is expected to contribute to the development of secure, interoperable, and internationally recognized AMI and distribution grid solutions, while supporting the digitalization, automation, and modernization of power distribution networks.
