Last week, representatives of the Korea Apparel Testing & Research Institute (Katri) and the VDE Testing and Certification Institute signed a memorandum of understanding in Offenbach. The two organizations intend to collaborate on testing, certification, and, in some cases, research related to PV systems, battery safety, household appliances, and sustainable products. Additionally, a regular exchange of expertise and technical information is planned.
Increasing regulations regarding safety, environmental aspects, and digital product information are driving up the demand for reliable testing, certification, and conformity assessments, particularly in the areas of product safety, fire protection, and sustainability. Katri and the VDE Institute intend to collaborate more closely to strengthen technical expertise in testing and certification as well as practical assessment approaches. The plan is to jointly further develop and harmonize testing specifications, evaluation criteria, and verification methods to ensure consistent conformity assessments.
“We are convinced that through close collaboration, we can create synergies that go beyond conventional cooperation and contribute to safer, more reliable, and more innovative technologies,” said Dr. Beate Mand, Managing Director of the VDE Institute. “We are also confident that this collaboration can open up new opportunities for both organizations, including in areas where we have not yet been active.”
Shin Dong-jun, President of Katri, stated, “Through this agreement with VDE, we will continue to strengthen our capabilities in testing, certification, R&D, and test specification development for emerging technologies aligned with the government’s energy transition and energy safety policies, while actively supporting Korean innovative technologies in entering the global market.”
