EU-Type Examination Certificate

We, the VDE Testing and Certification Institute, perform EU-type examinations as a notified body according to the Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU (RED). If no harmonized standards are applicable or not all variants have been fully tested according to harmonized standards, the evaluation via a type examination is mandatory. Cybersecurity in the Radio Equipment Directive

Delegated Regulation (EU) 2022/30 supplemented by (EU) 2023/2444 requires a mandatory cybersecurity assessment in accordance with Article 3, 3. (d), (e) and (f) of the Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU (RED) of 08/01/2025.  Accordingly, the requirements for radio equipment have been extended to include the areas of “network protection”, “personal data protection” and “fraud protection.” Harmonized cybersecurity standards cited in the Official Journal of the EU under the Radio Equipment Directive are the standards EN 18031-1, EN 18031-2 and EN 18031-3. They specify the requirements of the Radio Equipment Directive with regard to cybersecurity.

Manufacturers of radio equipment must prove the conformity of their products with new cybersecurity requirements of 08/01/2025. The VDE Institute provides support with the internal test specification “VDE-PB-0033,” which is based on ETSI EN 301 645 and the EU mandate to the European standardization organizations. We also offer the new “cybersecurity tested” certification scheme. This scheme includes certification according to the EN 18031-1,-2 and/or -3 standards. In addition to the certificate, a label is issued which can be attached to the product for marketing purposes. This label is valid for one year. An EU type examination on a voluntary basis, or if a restriction of the presumption of conformity applies, is still possible at any time on the basis of EN 18031-X and is always recommended by us, as this provides a high level of security for the manufacturer during a market surveillance inspection.   • Radio measurement system Rohde & Schwarz TS8997
  • Switching unit with filters for the common radio systems (2,4 GHz, 868 MHz, 5 GHz, LTE-Bands for Europe)
  • Measuring station for robotic lawnmowers and other radio equipment under 150 kHz according to EN 303 447
  • Spectrum analyzer FSW up to 67 GHz
  • Suitable antennas for the above mentioned frequency ranges
  • Fully Anechoic Chamber with 3m measurement distance
  • Efficient fast realtime measurement with TDEMI Ultra 18 FFT receiver from Gauss Instruments
  • Partial absorber measuring hall ("Semi-Anechoic") with 10m measuring distance
  • Communication tester / base stations (WiFi, Bluetooth, LTE) from Rohde & Schwarz (CMW 270, CMW 500)
