The VDE Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies aims to make the website www.vde.com and all associated subpages as accessible as possible in accordance with the the German Accessibility Improvement Act (BFSG). The goal is to provide users, regardless of their individual abilities, with equal access to the content and functions of the website.
Compliance with the accessibility requirements of the BFSG
Numerous accessibility measures have already been implemented:
- Texts are presented in a clear structure and with understandable wording
- The content is clearly structured and has sensibly placed headings, paragraphs, and lists. The language is technically appropriate.
- Responsive design
- The layout adapts to different screen sizes. Even when greatly enlarged or on small displays, navigation and content remain usable and clearly recognizable.
- Browser-independent page output
- The website is displayed in a stable and consistent manner. Content and functions are fully accessible, regardless of the system or browser type used.
- Accessibility of content via keyboard
- Key controls such as navigation, buttons, and forms can be accessed and operated using the tab key. The order is logical and predictable, which aids orientation.
- No flickering
- No visual content flickers more than three times per second.
- Notifications for missing mandatory information in input fields
- If mandatory input fields are not filled in, a colored marker appears alongside a text notification in English indicating that information is missing in the respective field.
Further measures to improve accessibility
The VDE Regional subpage contains a map application. Unfortunately, this contains barriers that cannot be technically removed at this time. However, in the future, we will offer an accessible version of the applications without a map or without operation via the map.
Status of compliance with requirements
This website is currently partially compliant with the AA conformance level of the “Web Content Accessibility Guidelines – WCAG 2.1.” In the long term, further criteria are to be implemented as part of a website relaunch, so that the website fully complies with conformance level AA of the “Web Content Accessibility Guidelines – WCAG 2.1.” To this end, VDE is working with experts to continuously optimize accessibility.
