(30.09.2024, Frankfurt a. M.) Since its foundation, the VDE ETG as an organization has experienced a number of crises, be it the oil price shock in 1973, the series of power outages in various regions of the world in 2003 or the current increase in natural disasters. Over the years, the focus of the specialist society has always been on pooling expertise from various disciplines and identifying technical solutions for the challenges ahead. “We are creating a platform for the joint exchange of knowledge between science and industry on all aspects of the energy system of the future,” says Buchholz. “We are connecting people from different generations as well as established institutions and start-ups with power and energy.” With the symposium Let's Power the Change at Fraunhofer ENIQ in Berlin, the VDE ETG wants to make this approach tangible and motivate young talent in particular to actively shape the future.
Thinking outside the box encouraged: discovering ways into the ETG
Experts often don't seem very approachable to young people. Yet even luminaries in a field started out small at some point. For this reason, the invited speakers and panelists at the anniversary event will not only discuss their respective topics, but also show how they have reached their current position and how beneficial committee work can be, both professionally and personally. The message: young people should get involved, as many topics require not only decades of expertise, but also fresh ideas and enthusiasm. As an example, power electronics is rapidly gaining in importance as a key element of the energy transition. Conference chair Prof. Dr. Andreas Ulbig, Head of the Chair of Active Energy Distribution Grids at RWTH Aachen University: “The ETG's mission is to create a sustainable, climate-neutral, efficient and secure energy system. To achieve this, we need the younger generation, because they are the technology experts of tomorrow. We want to get young people excited about energy technology and motivate them to get involved.”
