Dr. Udo Niehage, new CEO of the VDE Institute

Dr. Udo Niehage and Wolfgang Niedziella lead the globally recognized institute for testing and certification. Duo wishes to push tests and certifications in digitalization applications.

Dr.-Ing. Udo Niehage has been CEO of VDE Prüf- und Zertifizierungsinstituts GmbH since April 1, 2018. He is also assuming shareholder functions for the VDE Institute’s subsidiaries. Niehage has had a long career at Siemens and ABB. In 2003, he joined Siemens as the Chairman of the Divisional Board for Power Transmission and Distribution. Five years later, he led the Power Transmission division as CEO at Siemens AG in the Energy Sector area in Erlangen. Niehage, now Director of Government Affairs in Germany and Group Representative for the energy transition in Berlin, has led dialogue on energy policy with the federal government on behalf of Siemens AG since 2012, focusing on the issues of new market design, network build-out, energy efficiency, and energy research. During this time, Dr. Udo Niehage also committed himself to the VDE: As a presidium member, he assisted the Board Of Directors of the technological association from 2010 to 2017, which is an important and globally recognized partner of the electrical industry in science with numerous studies and conferences, in standards with norms and application rules, and in testing with tests and certifications. Niehage earned his doctorate in electrical engineering and information technology at RWTH Aachen and simultaneously completed his studies in business administration with a degree [Diplom-Kaufmann] in this field.  

Duo wishes to push tests and certifications in digitalization applications

As CEO of the VDE-funded VDE Prüf- und Zertifizierungsinstitut GmbH, Niehage will soon become the head of a globally recognized institute for testing and certifying electric devices, components and systems. Additional focus areas include tests and certifications in digitalization applications, including internet of things, smart living and renewables. Another Managing Director of the VDE Institute in Offenbach is Wolfgang Niedziella, who has held this position since 2011. Furthermore, Niedziella has held the position of Managing Director for VDE Global Services GmbH from 2012 to 2015.
