Testing and certification for the energy transition: VDE Institute supports manufacturers of DC meters

The demand for charging infrastructures and reliable energy storage systems is growing, and with it the requirements for the DC meters used. Are they safe and easy to integrate, and are the results precise? Modern measuring equipment at the VDE Institute now enables efficient DC meter testing. Customers can have their devices certified in accordance with current standards.

(Frankfurt a. M., 05.05.2025) The expansion of electromobility is progressing step by step, and charging infrastructures and energy storage systems are becoming increasingly important. This means that the DC meters used must function reliably. To meet these challenges, the VDE Institute has expanded its range of testing services. With a new facility, the experts comprehensively evaluate DC meters, charging stations and their components – with a focus on accuracy and safety.

The advantages of the new test bench at the VDE Institute: It covers high DC voltage and current ranges. Automated test sequences ensure efficient test processes and enable a comprehensive evaluation of performance and load. Climatic tests ensure realistic test conditions. The environment records the data precisely and controls the processes automatically. And users benefit from short throughput times, simple repeatability and meaningful test reports. They can document and evaluate the measurement results at any time using software.

With the new testing facility, the VDE Institute ensures that manufacturers and operators offer reliable products. "Ensuring precise measurement and billing processes promotes trust in charging infrastructure and energy storage solutions," adds Sven Öhrke, Member of the Management Board of the VDE Institute. "This is an important step for the accelerated expansion of electromobility.”
