Europe at a Turning Point

Europe is experiencing a turning point that long seemed unimaginable. Russia is waging a war on our continent that violates international law. Critical infrastructure within the EU is also being covertly targeted. Hybrid warfare and threats from Moscow, as well as growing technological dependencies on the Far East, bring home just how fragile security and stability have become. Europe’s open society is under pressure—not only geopolitically, but especially economically and technologically.

From Vulnerability to Resilience

Technological resilience has become a prerequisite for Europe’s security and sovereignty. Engineers also contribute to this by designing more robust systems, reducing technological dependencies, and making digital and physical infrastructures more resilient.

Key questions include:

  • How can Europe transform technological vulnerability into security and resilience?
  • How do we strengthen Europe’s technological resilience?
  • Which technologies will shape security and defense capabilities in the future?
  • And what steps must be taken today to secure Europe’s sovereignty tomorrow?

Join us to discuss these questions together with leading representatives from politics, industry, research, and technology. The VDE Summer Reception is part of the EUREL European Future Technology Summit 2026.
