Acquiring and protecting knowledge are now essential factors in the success of any organization. Knowledge of technology, products and processes helps to determine how innovative a company is and the extent of its competitive edge. The German Trade Secrets Act is in force for two years now and offers protection to companies. However, this protection only exists according to the "all-or-nothing rule", because the law only applies if the owner of the secret takes so-called "appropriate secrecy measures". But what is appropriate? What exactly is it that a company has to do and who is responsible for it? The past two years and some case law have shown that the requirements for companies are high.

Our expert Dr. Ulrich Becker, lawyer and partner at the law firm CMS will bring you up to date and give you tips on how trade secrets can be protected.

May 19, 2021 10 - 11 h CEST | Alexander Matheus

Devices and systems that are designed for data economy and that fulfill the principles of privacy-by-design and privacy-by-default can be tested and certified according to the new VDE test specification VDE-PB-0030.
With this certificate and associated label product-manufacturers are able to clearly demonstrate to their customers that user data is considered as very important and that measures were implemented in the products to secure this data.
The workshop gives an overview of this test specification and explains some requirements of documentation and product-tests.

We looking forward to your participation in our free online-seminar.

Status of the Delegated Responsibility Act

Many devices are using radio interfaces for example Bluetooth or ZigBee. The connection/coupling of electronic devices with the internet via radio has become a standard function and it’s difficult to imagine the market or everyday life without it.

But how easily do those radio devices provide weak points for identity theft or even fraud?

In our online seminar we would like to go into more detail about Article 3.3 of the Radio Equipment Directive by including the following essential requirements:
d) Radio devices are not allowed to have any harmful effects on the network
e) Radio devices have to protect personal data and the privacy of users
f) Radio devices support functions for fraud protection

We would like to give you an insight into the draft of the EU Commission for Delegated Regulation of the EU ("Delegated Act"), show the protection goals of Article 3.3 and highlight the current standards for the above mentioned requirements.

We would also like to assist you on how you can prepare for the upcoming Regulation in the EU.

We look forward to your participation in our free online-seminar.

businessman hand show human gear to success

June 29, 2021, 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM CEST | Kathrin Graulich, Prof. Dr. Rainer Stamminger, Christoph Türk

Laboratories, Market Surveillance Authorities and Certification Institutes play a key role in product testing and are at the front line for detecting possible circumvention. Manufacturers and experts are deeply involved in product design and standardization. However, currently, there is no ample knowledge or experience in dealing with circumvention and jeopardy effects in respect to the environmental aspects or potential reputation damage for the manufacturer.

With a view to supporting all stakeholders in specifically tackling circumvention, VDE together with Oeko- Institute and University of Bonn are organizing a 90-minute online workshop.

On the agenda:

Short introduction of the ANTICSS project

  • Circumvention’ as new topic in European legislation
  • ANTICSS definition for ‘circumvention’ and ‘jeopardy effects’; ‘alternative‘ test methods
  • Real-life cases and impacts of ‚circumvention‘ and ‚jeopardy effects‘
  • Assessment of lost energy savings by circumvention
  • Implications for and further responsibilities of relevant stakeholder groups (regulators, Market Surveillance Authorities, test laboratories, standardization)

We look forward to your participation in our free online-seminar.

July 14, 2021, 10 AM - 11 AM CEST | Andreas Fabian

In our online seminar about TDAP, we would like to introduce the possibilities to have your laboratory recognized as a VDE customer testing facility under the VDE Test Data Acceptance Program.
We will explain the different stages in the program and what are the differences between the stages 1-3 and which stages are covered by our accreditation.
We would also like to take a look which laboratory assessments have to be performed, including the requirements for the progression into Level 3.
Calculations of measurement uncertainty budgets can be very complex. As an alternative for customer laboratories in level 1-2, we show the application of the accuracy method according to procedure 2 of the IEC Guide 115.

We look forward to your participation in our free online seminar.
