VDE issues new position paper: Europe must secure sovereignty in microelectronics
With the series of position papers "Hidden Electronics," the first of which was published in 2014, the VDE demonstrates continuity regarding the importance of this field. Each of these papers has always generated a response, as many of the recommendations they contain have been taken up in technical and political circles for further discussion and have often served as a basis for today's strategic decisions in all areas of electronics. The activities of the German state government to expand sovereignty in research and industry in microelectronics, as well as the subsequent "EC Chips Act," are results of discussions initiated by the VDE community. Ultimately, the action recommendations agreed upon between industry and research in these papers serve to strengthen Germany and Europe as locations for innovation. These are currently more important than ever before in the geopolitical context, as the economic race is no longer limited to civilian applications alone; rather, the ability to protect national borders has become a central issue in the world, especially in Europe.
The release of the new published position paper „Hidden Electronics IV“ in “Studien- und Positionspapiere” targets on:
- Strengthening the entire semiconductor ecosystem in Europe
- Strengthen chip design
- Build on existing strengths
- Close gaps
- Foster innovation
- Identify future markets
- Benchmark against other world regions
- Strengthen research
- Attract skilled professionals
- Strengthen international partnerships
