EMC

VDE

There is growing demand from retailers and consumers that electric bicycles and e-scooters are safe to use and pose no danger to the driver or the environment. In order to determine the safety, in addition to the mechanical requirements, the electrical components, starting with the motor and battery, through cables and wires to switches, must be tested for their safety. Further general information on the subject of EMC can be found here.

The VDE Institute is a category A and D (No. KBA-P 00021-97) technical service for the areas of EMC (vehicles and components, four-wheeled and two-wheeled or three-wheeled vehicles) named by the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA - Germany).

EMC tests according to:

  • DIN EN 15194 - for pedelecs with max. 25km/h
  • ECE - R10 - max. 45km/h (license plate required) and E-Scooter

Protection Class Testing in IPX1-IPX9K, IP5X und IP6X

We test environmental effects and IP/IK protection ratings for your products and devices

Especially during a longer trip, a surprising rain shower can occur. For this reason, it is important that the function is still guaranteed under such conditions. The same applies to dust. Here, too, there should be no negative consequences when particles enter. After all, enthusiastic cyclists also like to ride through somewhat dry and stony terrain.

For this reason, we offer protection class tests for your e-bike, pedelec or e-scooter. General information about our protection class tests can be found here

Chemical Product Safety and Sustainability

Environmental protection goals and substance-related legal requirements apply worldwide. In addition to reducing and avoiding pollutants, the sustainability of electrical products is of great importance. Furthermore, the energy consumption, the choice of materials in the product design as well as the manufacturing and recycling processes are decisive for the CO2 emissions of the product in the life cycle. General information can be found here.

Our range of services includes:

  • REACH / RoHS tests
  • PAH tests
  • Insulation tests (such as glow wire, needle flame and ball pressure tests)

Functional safety

The certification of functional safety is an important contribution to demonstrating the safety of e-bikes, pedelecs and e-scooters, but also their conformity with the current state of the art. Standards require an assessment by an independent third party for systems that involve higher risks (from SIL3) - this also includes vehicles.

The VDE Institute offers services to make your products safer. VDE certification with the VDE special certificate for functional safety is possible according to various standards.General information can be found here.

Battery testing for e-bikes, pedelecs, e-scooters and their components

Whether it’s batteries or energy storage systems, the VDE Institute is your reliable test partner

Developments in electromobility and increased demand for wireless electric devices increase the demand for powerful and reliable batteries. Thanks to lithium-ion batteries and other technologies, an increasing number of electrical products that are currently tethered to a power cable can operate "wirelessly" in the future. To test batteries and fuel cells, the VDE Institute has established an ultra-modern test center for battery and environmental simulation tests.

If you need any more information about batteries, you can find it here.
