1. Purchasing support

Suppliers often present themselves in the Internet or at trade fairs as serious, successful companies. Still, all that glitters is not gold. So we analyze suppliers for you with regard to their work as legitimate businesses with a valid export license.

Moreover, we help you to define technical specifications, quality requirements, and necessary standards for the sales regions.

RMA and field return data serve as important sources for product improvements or design changes. We analyze the data collected and can therefore draw conclusions about the origin of the defect.

2. Supplier audits

We offer one- or two-day supplier audits to analyze the following criteria:

  • Corporate structure
  • Quality system
  • Production capacity

The audit report evaluates the result and identifies the supplier's capabilities in various areas.
We furthermore analyze current and future production capacity and compare this result with the theoretical and practical work load. This includes for example the number of employees and production experience, the condition of the equipment, and the level of quality. We likewise request available licenses and certificates as early as the evaluation phase. Specifically, the unavailability of documents could already constitute a disqualification criterion.

3. Review of function and reliability

At the VDE Institute, products are tested for function and reliability

In this step, test samples are analyzed with regard to their design, function, and quality before production begins. The essential question is:

Does the product satisfy its requirements and are the specification met?

Our objective is to identify and eliminate problems before actual production. We offer the following product test for this purpose:

  • Usability
  • Performance, function, and product design
  • Reliability and endurance tests

We offer these tests to you with the corresponding certification in our worldwide test laboratories. Because "Made in Germany" test quality opens markets and lends certainty.

4. Legal requirements

There are various legal requirements to be satisfied, such as CE, UL, NOM, INMETRO, CSA, FCC, RoHS, or REACH, depending on the country of sale targeted and the product.

The VDE Testing and Certification Institute offers a wide range of certification and testing services to satisfy these legal requirements. That way you qualify your product for your planned sales market and get another competitive advantage that sets you apart from the market.

We offer you a document check if the supplier presents complete test reports from recognized test institutes. This includes inspection to determine whether the existing product is the same as the one that was tested and whether the standards continue to be valid. The critical requirements from the report can be compared with the associated product with the aid of accelerated tests. We thereby minimize more than just your financial risk. For example, subsequent recalls and reputation losses can be thereby prevent. If the supplier is unable to present proper test reports, then we can conduct the testing and certification under the corresponding standards in our accredited test laboratories.

5. Production inspection

If sufficient order quantity is achieved for continuous production, we recommend checking the start of production and the production process. If there are problems, these can be detected and mitigated early.

During the production inspection, our inspectors check the following items for compliance with the agreements:

  • Work instructions
  • Test routines
  • Components
  • Safety tests
  • Required improvements from step 3 (review of function and reliability)

Moreover, the quality-assurance system's functionality is reviewed. Revenues, SPC, CPK, and AQL are checked and improvements are proposed when deviations arise.

6. Outgoing-goods inspection

The final process for successful supply chain management is outgoing-goods or preshipment inspection (PSI). This is conducted after AQL under IP 2859, ABC STD 105, or MIL STD 105E. These approaches are internationally recognized and accepted by all suppliers. If the complete delivery is produced and packaged, then the inspector takes a predetermined number of random samples and checks the product's quality. The outgoing-goods inspections at your customers' is mostly similarly structured. If the number of faults exceeds a specified value, then the manufacturer must rework the goods produced and the testing is repeated.

Container-shipment monitoring

Following successful outgoing-goods inspection or preshipment inspection, the inspector checks whether the shipment has been completely and safely loaded into the container. The inspector finally seals the container and shipment can begin.
