Grid Compliance for Plug-in Solar Devices: Key Points at a Glance

Plug-in solar devices can be connected to a household’s electrical circuit, provided that the applicable technical connection regulations—in particular VDE-AR-N 4105—are followed. The focus is always on safe and grid-compatible operation.

The registration process has also been significantly simplified: As a rule, registration in the Market Master Data Register is sufficient, while an additional notification to the grid operator has often been eliminated since 2024. At the same time, clear power limits of up to 2,000 W (DC) and 800 VA (AC) apply, within which simplified requirements take effect.

Another important aspect is the electricity meter: A bidirectional meter will be required in the future, though the meter operator will automatically replace it after registration in the Federal Network Agency’s Market Master Data Register.
